Just picked up a 2016 MPS 17 for my son who is eager to fish the docks at night. Looking for suggestions/pics of your light set-up, specifically so he can see channel markers in the distance. LED light bar or spot lights? Running the boat on the intracoastal waterway in South Florida.

Please do not run the ICW with any lights on other than your nav lights.

Run the area during the day until you know it like the top of your hand. Then use gps and your own familiarity to run safely at night at a reasonable speed.

Boats don’t have headlights and they are not supposed to. A boat with a light at or spot light is blinding every other boat around for literally miles.

I’m on the water every night and this is the single most annoying thing that other boaters do.

Lights are actually a bad thing on the water at night makes it harder to see. I use a headlamp with a hat so the brim protects my eyes a bit and flick it on and off when I need to but that’s all on for a quick glance at the reflectors on the markers. Best bet run the spots you’ll be fishing during the day so you know when to check if you even have too

Just so you know, running at night with a light bar on is technically illegal. I know a lot of people do it but not only can they get ticketed, they also blind all others on the water and could cause others to have an accident that they would be at fault for. I would recommend just taking a spot light and turning it on every now and then if there are no boats in front of him to see channel markers. Also as long as he has good electronics then he shouldn’t need extra light.
